2005 have been taken from the West Midland Bird Club Annual Report, with later reports from
various sources. Only more recent reports of the commoner species are given. I would

LITTLE GULL Larus minutus Second year bird on 29th July 1990. One on March 15th 2008. BLACK-HEADED GULL Larus ridibundus Annual winter visitor. HERRING GULL Larus argentatus Maximum in 1999 of 50 in December. Recorded in all months in 2005, with 8 on May 20th. YELLOW-LEGGED GULL Larus michahelis Two adults on January 24th 1999. ICELAND GULL Larus glaucoides Adult on February 27th 1988. GLAUCOUS GULL Larus hyperboreus First winter bird on 31st December 1989. GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL Larus marinus Maxima of 5 on December 5th and 27th 1999. KITTIWAKE Rissa tridactyla Immature on December 24th 1995. COMMON TERN Sterna hirunda Bred in 1998, 1999 and 2000. ARCTIC TERN Sterna paradisaea A juvenile flew through on July 23rd 1999. LITTLE TERN Sterna albifrons One on April 21st and 22nd 1999. BLACK REDSTART Phoenicurus ochruros One on April 23rd to 24th 1997. One on July 15th 1998. REDSTART Phoenicurus phoenicurus One on April 17th 1999. One on April 22nd 2000. Singles on August 20th, 28th and September 1st 2005. WHINCHAT Saxicola rubetra Two on May 1st 1999, with one on the 3rd. One was present on April 21st 2000, with three on 22nd and a final single on 27th. STONECHAT Saxicola torquata In 1999, the wintering male remained on Rattlechain Tip until March 14th, with two passage birds on March 13th. In 2000, two present on Rattlechain Tip until February 20th. A female on March 8th was followed by a male on the 10th and a female on the 11th. One returned to Rattlechain Tip on October 12th with one or two birds subsequently until the end of the year. WHEATEAR Oenanthe oenanthe Noted on five dates between March 25th and April 27th 2000 with a peak of two birds. Singles on March 19th and April 23rd 2005. RING OUZEL Turdus torquatus One on March 29th 1998. Two on September 13th 2000. BLACKBIRD Turdus merula Breeding resident. FIELDFARE Turdus torquatus 200 over on November 2nd 1998. Maximum of seventy on November 3rd 1999. Seen 2000. SONG THRUSH Turdus philomelos At least three pairs bred in 2005. REDWING Turdus iliacus 300 on October 14th 1997. 150 on February 5th and October 25th 2005. MISTLE THRUSH Turdus viscivorus Breeding resident. Peak count of 27 on September 27th 1997. GRASSHOPPER WARBLER Locustella naevia Singing on April 29th 1997. Singing on June 27th 2000. SEDGE WARBLER Acrocephalus schoenobaenus Family party in early August 1999. Up to three singing in 2000. GOLDFINCH Carduelis carduelis 15 in August and December 1998. Present in the breeding season in 2005. SISKIN Carduelis spinus Winter visitor. Maxima of 30 in November 1997. LINNET Carduelis cannabina Present in the breeding season in 2005. LESSER REDPOLL Carduelis cabaret Winter visitor. Maxima of forty in January and February 2000. COMMON REDPOLL Carduelis flammea Most recently, one on January 10th 1996. BULLFINCH Pyrrhula pyrrhula Noted in the breeding season in 2005 (three pairs).
