breeding bird survey by G R Harrison and R Normand,
subsequent sightings taken from the Annual Reports of the
West Midland Bird Club, and my own observations since

Heron - occasionally visits Doultons Claypit to
feed.
Mallard - regularly visit Blackbrook and
pools in Doultons Claypit.
Sparrowhawk - present in the breeding
season, probably breeds.
Kestrel - present in the breeding
season, probably breeds.
Moorhen - bred on pool along Blackbrook
in 2001.
Woodcock - single birds flushed in 1983,
1984, 1996 and December 2001.
Stock Dove - breeds.
Woodpigeon - breeds.
Collared Dove - breeds nearby.
Turtle Dove - one in May 1995.
Tawny Owl - at least one pair breeds.
Cuckoo - assumed to breed in 1983.
Single birds seen in 1990 and 1996.
Green Woodpecker - breeds.
Great Spotted Woodpecker - breeds.
Lesser Spotted Woodpecker - single birds
seen in 1984, 1985, 1992 and 1996.
Tree Pipit - seen on passage May 1995.
Grey Wagtail - two seen along Blackbrook
19/11/83.
Wren - breeds.
Dunnock - breeds.
Robin - breeds.
Ring Ouzel - seen on passage March 1997.
Blackbird - breeds.
Fieldfare - winter visitor.
Song Thrush - breeds.
Redwing - winter visitor.
Mistle Thrush - breeds.
Whitethroat - breeds on nearby Netherton
Hill.
Garden Warbler - males singing in 1984,
1991 and 1994. No evidence of breeding.
Blackcap - breeds.
Wood Warbler - three breeding
territories in 1983, falling to one pair in 1989. No
report of breeding since. Passage birds spring 1994 and
1995.
Chiffchaff - breeds
Willow Warbler - breeds.
Goldcrest - present throughout the year.
Breeding?
Spotted Flycatcher - two to three pairs
bred in 1984. No longer present.
Pied Flycatcher - one in April 1994.
Long-tailed Tit - breeds.
Willow Tit - seen occasionally. A family
party was seen on Netherton Hill 2001.
Coal Tit - breeds
Blue Tit - breeds.
Great Tit - breeds.
Nuthatch - breeds.
Treecreeper - breeds.
Red-backed Shrike - reportedly bred
until 1966. One seen 1969.
Jay - breeds.
Magpie - breeds.
Jackdaw - bred in 1998. Present during
breeding season 2001.
Carrion Crow - breeds.
Starling - breeds on surrounding
housing estates.
House Sparrow - breeds on surrounding
housing estates.
Chaffinch - breeds.
Greenfinch - breeds nearby.
Linnet - breeds on Netherton
Hill.
Redpoll - probably bred in 1983, but no
breeding records since. Large feeding flocks April 1991
and January 1994.
Bullfinch - breeds.
Yellowhammer - bred nearby in 1983. No
reports since.
